Murray

As the seat of Calloway County, Murray is the area's largest city and boasts a population of more than 37,000 residents. Here, you can explore the Clara M. Eagle Art Gallery, trek through three local parks, or cheer on the Murray State Racers at one of their home games.

Hazel

Don't be fooled by Hazel's size—this tiny town is filled with personality and tons of Southern-inspired attractions. There's plenty to do on Main Street, which showcases antique shops, boutiques, and the Hazel Folk Art Gallery. Don't forget to attend the town's annual Hazel Day, too!

Dexter

With a population of just under 300 residents, Dexter is an unincorporated community ideal for anyone looking to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Though Dexter doesn't have many stores or restaurants of its own, residents can find everything they need along US-641.

Locals often recommend Rudy's on the Square, a casual spot in Murray that serves up delicious American fare. Other favorites include Sirloin Stockade and The Keg in Murray.

Calloway County also offers a diverse mix of locally owned stores, as well as a few big-box retailers. The area is known for its plentiful selection of antique stores, many of which are located in Murray and Hazel. You'll find even more shopping spots scattered around Murray State University.

Parks and recreation

If you love the outdoors, Calloway County could be the perfect place to call home. For those looking to learn more about the area's history, try visiting the 1,000+ acre Fort Donelson National Battlefield. The city of Murray has its own dog park, arboretum, and is just minutes away from Lake Kentucky, a popular spot for boating, hiking, and RVing.

Educational opportunities

Most students living in the area are zoned for the Calloway County School District, but residents of Murray attend the Murray Independent School District. MISD is one of the highest performing districts in all of Kentucky, while CCSD is known for its vast selection of extracurriculars and sports. Many graduates also go on to attend Murray State University, which offers 11 associate, 64 bachelor, and 42 master's programs.
